![]() Photo via The Stranger At Blogher, the adorable Mocha Momma talked about those moments that she has with her bffs, where they see some fashion tragedy walking down the street and they say, "Oh, she must not have any friends, because if she did, there's no way they'd let her go out looking like that mess." It got a pretty decent laugh at Laurie Toby Edison's panel on body image, but really, I love the assumption behind the statement. Clearly, it's not the fashion victim's fault, someone's just not looking out for her. Waisters, I wish I could say that this person doesn't have any friends, but you can't tell me that they gave themselves this trainwreck of a manicure. I mean, seriously, I don't get it. Why advertise a bunch of syrupy, HFCS- and trans-fat-laden garbage directly on your person? What do you think? Cute or not? 8 CommentsLeave a comment |

Is it wrong that I kind of want a Dr. Pepper fingernail? Or maybe just my big toenail.
While I value the artistic nature, my vote is for stupid.
I do like a good Mountain Dew, though.
I actually can't stand it when people make comments like that though...In all honesty, if one of my *friends* actually came up to me and told me I looked like a hot mess, I'd be pissed. Maybe I was having a rough day and didn't feel like putting in more effort than a baggy pair of sweats and a stained tank top. Who cares?
It smacks to me of the whole "sitting your friends down to talk abou their weight" thing that was in the NY Post a few days ago. Like, if you're really my friend, you'll mind your business about my trashy manicure. :)
And oh yes, it's trashy! Haha, I kind of love it though.
Maybe they're being ironic, in an Andy Warhol kind of way? Was this individual wearing really, really, really tight black jeans? With a flannel shirt? Because that manicure with those pants would give you so much hipster street cred, you might actually explode.
I think it takes amazing talent to paint so perfectly on such a small canvas. They're also recognizable, too! I think this is major talent, and who knows what it was done for. Maybe a museum? Art gallery? Gala at an event? I doubt someone just painted their nails this way for every day; this is talent and was done with a purpose.
I love it!! And would fawn over it at a gala.
Oh, ugh, ew, no.
Then again, I have a "My Body is Not A Corporate Billboard" policy. My t-shirts consist of either esoteric geek references, 'I Was There' shirts from various volunteer shindigs, and plain men's undershirts.
Except for the Disney ones. They're gifts, my sister works for the Mouse.
I love 'em. Yes they're trashy but trashy can be a choice and sometimes that's just how I want to be.
I kinda like it. And I agree it's art on a very small canvas. It took some real talent to make the logos so correctly on such a small area. I wouldn't walk around with that on my nails for any period of time. Maybe at a geek convention or art gala as becky mentioned.
And I think it is a sign of true friendship if you've got a friend who can tell you that whatever you're wearing doesn't look good on you without you taking it too personally and getting mad at her. I value friends who can do that, and who know the difference between me having a bad/lazy day versus me wearing something that I think looks great, when in reality it doesn't
