I haven't been having a lot of success in my quest to become Push-Up Queen 2008. A few days into my attempts, I noticed that my wrist was aching and also, I'm a big wimp. However, I'm back in the game. Right now, I'm back down to my starting point, which is seven in a row before I collapse into a panting, shaking heap, and that number seems like not a lot of push-ups, but I want to point out to you that I have an enormous rack. And also am a big wimp.

I've found a new common-sense training plan with the aim of reaching the amazing state of 100 consecutive push-ups. Can you imagine the whosit-whatsit muscles I'll have developed at that point? Like, would I even need a bra or would my amazing pecs be able to support my titular assets fully? And will my meaty grandma upper arms be replaced with glorious Jillian Michaels-esque pipes? Will I be going to the gun show? Woot! Watch out, chicas, because my goal is to become the first fat girl with enough muscles to justify her own action figure. Who's with me?! Together, we can dominate the WORLD with our upper-body strength!

In the comments, we want to know: How many push-ups can you do in a row?

I'm with you! Thought I was up to 30 but last night my husband pointed out that the chest should touch the floor to count, not my nose, I'm down to 20.

Found that site yesterday and love the idea. Really want one of the t-shirts!

Ummm...I don't think I can even do ONE pushup.

Holy cow, just that photo is inspiration enough!

I just finished week 1 of the challenge. I'm up to 34 push ups before I start to break form.

My husband and I are doing this! Despite the fact that I can swim a million laps, I can only manage 1, maybe 2 real push ups. I'm determined to do this plan and get stronger.

None. But, to be fair, I really haven't tried.

Boy-style or girl style?

I, myself, started with girl-style and work with my 10 pounds until I built up some upper body strength and got the lower half a little bit lighter.

I can now do 10 boy-style push ups and trust me when I say that I NEVER thought I'd see the day where I can even do ONE!!

Seven is awesome!
As long as you feel good and are happy, keep up the excellent job, Wheet!!

God Bless.

Totally with you! Perhaps this will motivate me to do the pushups I always tell myself I am going to do. I have managed to work my way up to 10, from 5.... so 7's awesome - keep it up!

I am with you! Two things that might help with wrist stuff:

1) Make a fist, place your knuckles on the floor and keep your wrist straight. Feels very gorilla like, but helps.
2) Try a little yoga wrist wedge that decrease the bend in your wrist by elevating the heel of your hand. You can use a towel or pillow or rolled up yoga mat.

Yay! I found this last week and just completed Week 1 yesterday. I started at Level 2 (able to do 6-10 push-ups). The first workout (28 push-ups across 5 sets) killed me, second (35) was a little better, and the third (41) was almost easy! I can now do 15 without stopping.

I just started this plan this morning, after reading this last week.
I did 8 pushups for my initial test, and just did day 1 today!

Can I just say that the thought of doing 100 pushups with out stopping blows my mind!

Hey, let's not say "girl" or "boy" - style for how we do push-ups, because it's sexist and dated. How about "modified" instead?

Mari said:

actually lets forget about "girl push-ups" because the real deal is much better and if you work at it you wont need to do girl push-ups much longer. they're a thing of the past

Lauren said:

Heck yeah! I'll try this with you. Right now, it's my goal to be able to do 10 unassisted pull ups. I'm only 50 pounds away from making that happen, so I imagine that also attempting to reach 100 push ups in a row would help me reach that too!

Good luck!

This has been very inspiring. I have needed a way to step back into some regular strength exercise. And this push ups program has been very easy to start with. I hope to finish the whole thing. Thanks for another great idea and link!

Oh and I think we could all argue about push up form. But let's not. Even sloppy pushups will get you stronger. No one is allowed to comment on my push up form.
