If there's anything Elastic Waisters can identify with, it's the concept that one size does not fit all. One person's small is another person's extra-large, of course, but why slot yourself into five or ten choices when you're totally unique? I have personally blended foundation, lip gloss (a bloody mauve that tastes like butter mixed with maple syrup), and even a custom fragrance (that I suspect smells a bit like grassy laundry soap). And when I read about a customizable vitamin, I couldn't believe that no one had ever thought of it before!Code Nutrition takes the guesswork out of your supplement by asking that you give them a mofo DNA sample. From that, they extract your body's needs and purportedly create a blend that is customized just for you. While I'm titillated by the concept, let's be frank: your DNA was firmly locked into place before you exited the sparse quarters of your mother's womb. It can't reveal anything about the deficiencies in your modern diet. Your DNA doesn't know how much calcium you get. It can't testify to your love of spinach salads. And as you would expect, this doesn't come cheap. It's 300 bucks just for the DNA test and then $100 a month for your vitamin supply. I think I'll pass. $1,500 a year buys a LOT of vitamins from Whole Foods and probably leaves some money left over for lip gloss. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
