When I bought a bike, of course I bought a helmet along with it. A helmet is a very vital part of bicycle safety, and I never leave the house without it--even though every time I leave the house, I am very, very tempted to leave it behind. I grumble when I strap it on and fiddle with the straps and try to make it comfortable and not feel ridiculous, and that's an irritation. But while I'm doing that, I also try really hard to avoid making eye contact with myself in the mirror, because I look ridiculous. Even when I'm standing still, I look like I'm going very, very fast. In a very nerdy way.

So I when I saw this beautiful helmet from Bouf, I whimpered a little bit. It is so elegant, and fancy, and does not make the wearer look like she is pitched into the wind, fighting for her life against a killer tornado. It is sleek and sexy and cute and it is far too much money to spend on a helmet and I think it might not even ship to the U.S., but I've bookmarked it quietly in my heart, for that day I look at my ugly shiny white helmet and struggle to tap into the moral fortitude it takes to strap it on just one more time.

I am planning to get a bike soon and the helmet is my worry. (though worry is really the wrong word)

I've never worn a bike helmet (hell, it's been YEARS since I've ridden a bike!) So I am totally at a loss for what to look for, etc etc etc. Luckily the place where I plan to buy my bike also sells reasonably priced helmets.

That's a cute helmet.

120.00 US seems a bit much, when you can get cute and affordable DOT approved motorcycle helmets for less than $75.00. Google for motorcycle half-helmets or motorcycle polo helmets, you should find a bunch. This is mine; I wear it when I ride my big old grandma bike with the basket and bell.

I know exactly how you feel! When I needed a new helmet recently, I felt like everything was designed to make me look fast. I am not fast, and I *know* I am not fast.
At my boyfriend's recommendation, I bought two helmets from Bern. I got the Women's Brighton in green loopfade, and the boys' Niño in green dinosaur. Yes, it's a kid's helmet, but I have a tiny head.
I got the winter versions of both, so I get a nice warm liner I can put in there for riding in the winter. Just yesterday a cute guy on the street stopped me to say he loved my helmet (I was rocking the dinosaurs).
I highly recommend them!
