WELL-BEING

![]() Sometimes, I got me some cravings. Oh my god, some cravings. I keep a box of really good European cocoa-dusted truffles stashed behind a bin of bread flour in the pantry, because that one time of the month, when suddenly I just have to have some chocolate? I know that I will be satisfied with only one (or maybe two) truffles and won't be driven to get into my car, go to the store and buy a package of Oreo Double Stuffs and then proceed to plow through it. According to Self editor Liz Plosser, this is a good strategy. "If you're craving chocolate, eat fabulous chocolate--a Lindt Lindor chocolate ball. They're decadent, delicious and portion-controlled. One ball [less than 100 calories] will likely squelch the craving." But it seems that cravings are really part of the diet mentality that we're all trying to desperately to avoid. Researchers taught women to accept the fact that they were craving a "naughty" food. By treating the craving as non-emotional as a sneeze or an itch, the women were able to get past the craving without necessarily acting upon it. Once again, it comes down to mental forgiveness and desensitizing ourself to our food fetishes. Interesting! 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

I do the same as you and I think it's better than trying to never give in, because eventually you do and you wake up to find yourself laying on the kitchen floor surrounded by wrappers with chocolate stuck in your hair and a caramel mysteriously stuck in a fold and wonder when the heck happened.
Here's something that might help: http://www.aish.com/passcook/passcookdefault/Desserts_.asp#Chocolate%20Decadence
It's technically kosher for Passover, but I have personally verified that (a) it tastes good even when it's not Passover, and (b) you can't eat more than a sliver at a time.
Sub butter in for margarine, do cornstarch for potato starch; it won't matter at all. It strikes me as the kind of thing that freezes quite well (low moisture content; very dense). I suggest strawberry slices on top, on the bottom, or pureed all over it.
PMS-B-Gone, I call it...
I'm very much about treats in moderation. I actually have a little bag of dark dark chocolate Lindt balls in my desk at work. I've had the bag for at least 2 or 3 months, and I think I still have 2 left in there. Just occasionally I want a nice piece of chocolate, so I savor one of those little balls and move on. If I didn't do that, I could see myself obsessing about the chocolate because it is FORBIDDEN.
