You know, I tend to avoid ground meat in all things (I'm amazed by how many of us grew up eating ground beef-based casseroles as kids) but man, do I love a good hamburger. In fact, I'll often trek out to B.F.Egypt just to go to a little rural tavern that is known for the cheapest, greasiest and most delicious hamburgers in all the land. Esteban often disdains my dedication to the perfect burger as my need to be "High Maintenance," thus our nickname for this burger bar is "High Maintenance Hamburgers." Achieving that perfect balance of bun, condiments and savory meat? It's almost a zen experience. And considering that it's National Burger Month, here are some great burger suggestions for your Memorial Day back yard barbecues!
  • Over at The Kitchn, they're showing you the snake method for filling burgers without working the meat too much (that's what she said).
  • Our blog bffs at Slashfood will walk you through choosing the perfect ground beef. (In this case, leaner is not necessarily better).
  • Elise has a Jamaican jerk burger and I will warn you: if you haven't had lunch yet, or are even a little bit hungry, you probably shouldn't even click on this link.
  • I am holding my breath, waiting for Alton Brown to explain the science behind the Squeeze Burger.
What about you? What do you like on your hamburger? Do you like the thin, tender patties or the thick juicy ones?

The comments are looking for a bite of your juicy double.

Do you guys have the Gourmet Burger Kitchen in the States. Honestly. Pure. Genius.

Ever since you introduced me to them, I know of no better burger than the High Maintenance. Thank you, thank you!

I like to go a little over-the-top with the burger toppings - bacon, blue cheese, caramelized onions, thousand island dressing and ketchup is my favorite combo! Ever since I learned to make the onions at home, the bar has been raised for restaurant burgers - they have to be really good or really unique to measure up!
