Speaking of strawberries! Zoe of Zoe Bakes (whose "Eat Dessert First" philosophy is one I whole-heartedly agree with, and hope to have etched, in sugar crystals, on my tombstone) doesn't have the fresh, totally ripe, sugary-sweet strawberries out where she is in Minnesota, either. Which really, seems unfair and kind of like a travesty.

But what she's doing is turning them up a notch by roasting them with sugar and a little bit of balsamic vinegar. It is possible that I have spent oh, so many years of my life under a rock, but I have never before heard of (or considered) roasting strawberries. The result sounds like it is going to be summer right there in your mouth, and everyone's invited.

I doubt you can improve on good berries. I am sometimes disappointed by baking with berries. When I get done, the result is yummy. But not as delicious to me as plain old berries.
