Heaven help me, but I have become enamored of madras and madras-esque plaids that make you look like an old man who should be wearing dress socks and leather sandals, except way the hell cuter. It appears that I have developed a great and abiding appreciation for old man chic, and I will not apologize. We should all wear cheery, sexy, adorable plaid shorts with white wifebeaters and maybe even a panama hat, and I will not hear a word about how your big butt looks in plaid pants because you know how it looks? Freaking cute.

Here's a whole raft of adorable plaids, in every size and length and color. I may buy them all:

• Old Navy, we hate you, and yet we can't help but love you for your inexpensive, disposable fashion. Here's plaid in both plus and misses sizes.

• Of course J. Crew's got a classic madras print. Of course.

•  A nice knee-length from 3 Chickadees, in two bright prints.

• The Avenue's got a whole rainbow of cute pastel plaids--blue, yellow, pink, and green for the win.

• JMS makes a slightly more sedate long plaid short, with cute button detailing, for when you're feeling a little less, you know, loud.

• A dark blue madras print at Anne Taylor Loft looks almost serious! Except really cute.

• Pink and green is probably my favorite color combo. Pink and green plaid? Yay!

• Holy crap, has Torrid got a crazy number of plaid shorts and adorable short-shorts and crops, but I think these pink and orange ones are my absolute favorite.

• These are tiny and cuffed and adorable and young, in excellent Fruit Stripe Gum colors. You have to be brave to rock these, but I think you can do it.

• What's even cooler than plaid shorts? Plaid seersucker shorts.

• Columbia wants you to look cute when you're climbing mountains. Thus: the plaid performance shorts!

• And finally, cute, stretchy, knee-length shorts in a red and brown plaid that feels kind of retro, and just makes me happy.
