I have ridiculously pale skin and also, bruise like a peach. In fact, whenever I get home from a trip, I look like I've been through a minor car accident from the bruises caused by sitting on airplane seatbelts, knocking my shins against heavy luggage, or whacking my legs against furniture when navigating my way into a hotel bathroom in the dark. And I can always tell when I'm not getting enough vitamins and minerals because just the minor bumps in my daily life start showing up on my flesh.

Right now, I've got three gigantic bruises on my body, scary, dark ones with varying shades of purple and blue. The one on my inner knee is undoubtedly from the first leg waxing appointment of the year, the one on my hip is probably from some sexy time over the weekend, and then the one on my arm is...well, I have no idea. I don't even remember jabbing myself or anything. Clearly, it's time to dedicate myself to some fresh fruits and veggies. I should probably read this book, huh?

Luckily, the weather is starting to turn, which means that organic vegetation will be readily available for pennies on the pound here in the flyover states. My bare minimum is five a day, which seems like a lot for someone who exists primarily via Starbucks and protein bars, but I am full of resolve! And soon, full of B-complex vitties! I take inspiration from this great stop-action animation from Jason Sanders, who has clearly demonstrated that he has a lot of patience. Chomp chomp chomp!

The comments want to know how many servings of fruits and veggies you get a day and what are your secrets for helping me busy eaters get their fill every day?

I get anywhere from 5-10 servings of fruits and veggies a day through various methods. My latest morning injection of fruity goodness comes through the smoothies I've been making for breakfast. I use different combinations of berries, fruit juice, bananas, pineapple, whatever sounds good that day. Blend it all together with some yogurt and flaxseed. Pour it in a giant round tupperware and take it to work to sip through a straw for the first hour or so at my desk. It takes maybe 7 minutes out of my morning getting ready routine.

I don't eat nearly enough fruit. I do eat at least 2-3 servings of veggies a day.

I'm curious as to what you're dipping your apples in up there. Is that mustard or...something else?

Mags, that is Whole Foods/365 Organic Creamy Peanut Butter. It's my attempt to bring some protein to the party.

I eat at least 5 serving of veggies a day, I love veggies. I rarely eat fruit by itself, I know I'm not normal with what most people eat. I do a lot of smoothies with fruits so I guess that counts.
I take a whole food multi that has fruits and veggies in it.
I hope your bruises clear up soon.

I try to get 7-10 servings a day. I just do the usual tricks: fruit on my cereal, veggies on my sandwiches, salads and if I'm running short, V8 or a smoothie made from 8th Continent Light Chocolate Soy Milk, strawberries and 1/2 a banana. I get plenty, but I'm probably pretty boring in my choices.

I'm a grazer, so I take about 2 cups of baby carrots, bell peppers, snow or sugar snap peas, broc, mushrooms etc. to work to either eat on their own (the sweeter ones) or to dip in hummous. I also always take 2 pieces of fruit, and will often have a salad at lunch.

Aside from that, a fruit at brekkie (i.e. frozen berries in my oatmeal), and then likely a couple of vege at dinner.

I'm a grazer too. I get 7-10 servings of fruit and veggies a day by eating fruit with breakfast (in oatmeal or yogurt or having a banana w/ PB on it) then grazing on fruit like grapes or strawberries or cut up melon til lunch. I eat veggie salad for lunch with some chicken in it or have a veggie salad with soup. Then I snack on more fruits, and have another veggie salad with dinner. I find it's very helpful to cut up / wash fruit and put it in easy-to-stash-in-your-purse containers right when you bring it home. That way it's always available to you.
