Oh those wacky scientists! This week, they've decided that maybe you don't need to drink as much water as they originally thought. In fact, two kidney experts insist that if you're drinking water when you're not thirsty, you might even be doing some bodily harm. Great, after my climate guilt finally kicked in enough to convince me to ditch the Voss habit and invest in a Brita and a six-pack of Siggs? Like everything else, the First World was probably consuming more than its fair share of clean drinking water anyway. But if you're not ready to give up the lovely feeling of instant hydration, another study has confirmed that drinking tea is better than drinking plain water anyway.

But wither the pig placenta beverage, scientists? It has zero calories and supposedly makes you oh so beautiful! Meh, I'm sticking with a cup of mocha and something tasty, like the moffle. Certainly one of those two things are going to be good for you if we wait long enough.

Was there ever a scientific basis for the recommendation to drink 8 glasses of water a day? I always just thought that was something that magazine writers made up.

But if we can't trust the magazine writers, who can we trust?!

Hi!
I think we are not really tuning ourselves to what we read and trying to understand the message that is being conveyed. It says that we should not be drinking water if we do not feel thirsty. Someone might say: 'What if one doesn't feel thirsty and drinks too little water in a day? Won't he become dehydrated?' My answer is: 'Yes, if a person drinks too little water, he or she is likely to get dehydrated. However, it is impossible for one who makes it a point to listen to the body to not know when he or she is thirsty. Our bodies know much more than we give them credit for. If only we get attuned to the messages relayed by our body in the form of signals, like fever, bad feeling, physical sensations, etc, many of us would be leading healthier lifestyles.
