Do you like doughnuts? Wait, that's a no brainer, because who doesn't like a doughnut! Let me rephrase: do you have a difficult time resisting taking one, two, fourteen doughnuts off the filing cabinet at work? Well, hey, it's not your fault! It doesn't make you a weak person; your little noodle is programmed to want that doughnut. It's totally true and here's the science to back it up.

Apparently our brains are programmed to leap into action when presented with the sugary treats. A study found that when hungry volunteers were shown a picture of a Krispy Kreme doughnut or a screwdriver, the sugary snack sent the brain into overdrive. The same response did not occur after participants had stuffed themselves with up to eight of them.

For the record, nutritionist Joy Bauer says that only eating a doughnut for breakfast is actually worse for you than completely going without food. Wow, who knew? But if you think we're going to tell you to defy freaking evolution, you're wrong! You can have your cake doughnut and eat it too! However, if you're going to go for the delightful hole-y goodness, for instance, something like this amazing peanut-butter glazed banana-creme filled gourmet doughnut, make sure you've had some protein and fruit first so you don't throw your entire system into sugar shock.

"doughnut or a screwdriver" Really, who comes up with the control group for things like this?

Screwdriver the tool, or the cocktail? Very important distinction! For the record, i'm one of those freaks who prefers the plain cake doughnuts to the sugar-bomb ones.

Actually I hate doughnuts - they always taste like dish soap to me (seriously!).

I look at the doughnut and say do I really want the doughnut or 6 pack abs? The six pack wins every time! I think about how hard I worked out at the gym and the taste of a doughnut is never worth it!!!

i actually don't like sweets very much at all. Everyone's different. Too much sugar actually turns my apetite off. the only exception to that is ice cream. What i really like is real food, and salty foods. But the sugar thing for me isn't true. i mean sure it looks good, but the for me, sweets look so much better than they actually taste. and i feel gross whenever i might eat a doughnut, i never feel like eating the whole thing, and im someone who can eat the whole entire lumberjack slam at Denny's.
