How much do I love Crystal Renn? Or want to BE Crystal Renn? Not only is this non-waif model gorgeous and beloved by Dolce & Gabbana, Jean-Paul Gaultier and the brilliant Steven Meisel, but she seems to be one smart cookie besides. Check out what she's got to say over at Lou Lou:
I wasn't functioning properly: The side effects of not eating were catching up with me. I was unable to impress during castings and on the sets of photo shoots. Even though I continued to diet, I kept gaining weight. And there was always pressure to lose pounds and inches. It reached a point where there was nothing left for me to do. My career wasn't taking off like I had hoped it would. I couldn't live like that anymore. An agent noticed my unhappiness and told me I had two choices: I could continue to struggle with my weight and be pushed to do work I didn't want or I could explore a whole new type of modeling. She told me about plus-size modeling but said it was mostly older models and that I wouldn't be able to do any editorial shoots, which was the whole reason why I started modeling. I told her that not only would I do plus-size modeling but I would accomplish my dreams in doing so. (via the amazing Shameless Magazine)And it seems as though she's done exactly that. Just another example of someone who refused to listen to prevailing thought and wouldn't take no for an answer. What an inspiration! Love her! 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

Thank you so much for posting this! In some weird twist of fate I have to walk a catwalk for the first time next week. I've been beating myself up, feeling edgy and unattractive and not thin enough in the least to show up at all.
Reading about Crystal makes me feel so, SO much better. She's gorgeous! If she can make a career of it, then I can survive this one-time experience.
Thanks again!
K
So cool!
Also, I have a question - what on earth are "editorials" in the model/fashion world? (Sorry, I'm a silly geek who is more NPR than ANTM, but not out of snobbishness! I did watch a marathon one day, but we've since canceled the cable - had to choose between that and the internet - it was an instant decision)
Thanks in advance!
