The New York Times reports that The Dress is Dead--it's been "done to death," in fact, and anyone who is anyone and also fashionable (the two are synonyms) will be wearing pants, instead. And now this is where I officially give up on any claims to being either fashionable or anyone, because I love the dress. I love wearing the dress. I embrace the dress with passionate arms, and refuse to ever let go, and you will have to pry the dress off my cold, dead body.
Dresses are the perfect item of clothing, because they are so simple, so easy, and they make everyone look so cute. That is why I nominate spring as the official perfect season, because it is already the official season of the dress--the very best time of year for them. When the weather gets warm, and that is when I start looking at fruity delicious colors and crisp, flattering shapes and plan out an entire wardrobe of adorable dresses to last me all the way, maybe unfashionably, but as previously established I do not care! through September. 5 CommentsLeave a comment |

Dumb declarations like this are exactly why I hate the NYTimes sometimes. If the dress is dead, I might as well be dead too.
I am addicted to the dress. And also, the West Coast seems to have ignored such a declaration because every store down here is packed to the gills with adorable dresses this year, a fact which is making my wallet cry. Viva la dress!
I'm just going to throw this out there since there are so many fashionable ladies running around this site. I love dresses too, but I'm very long torsoed so i have a hell of a time finding one where the waist isnt hugging the bottom of my rib cage in a very uncomfortable and unflattering way. Any other girls have this problem and find a solution/ manufacturer who makes cute, non-dowdy dresses that work?
Okay, i do agree with you that dresses are adorable, and this season in particuliar, they are fabulous....but, being a bit fat (size 20-22), I have never felt completely comfortable in them because my thighs are always banging together when I walk. In fact, when i discovered the Spanx that are just a high waisted shorts version, perfect for under a dress, i was delighted. Only thing is they are kind of warm in summer weather. Alas, I may have to lose weight to fully enjoy the dress.
Does anyone else have this thigh-banging problem?
@Emily: You know when I heard the thigh-banging complaint a lot? When I was in competitive dancing and the professional track at a classical ballet school. Any woman with real thighs capable of doing the real work of moving and grooving has this issue. Spanx are a godsend, one I am blissfully embracing at this very moment under my dress. Mind you, I'm several sizes larger than you, too.
I've recently come back to the joy of dresses after some drama involving gender and body issues (too large to reiterate in this wee comment box) and was struck by the fact that, whilst the New York Times is all "Dresses are DEAD!" all the real-size women clothing sites are offering tons of cute dresses in many styles and cuts. In the last month I've bought dresses from iGigi and B and Lu that I adore.
