ok, i read the jerk article too and now you have me 'started'...

i think some of our 'jerk' radar isn't fully developed until we a) get self esteem implants or b) get sufficiently fed up after meeting/dating enough of them to 'just say no'...

'sorry guys'...i think i have been more than fair over the years. Seems like its been one near felon or felon after the other. He may start out sweet/nice, but after a while it becomes apparent that it was a temporary bait scenario and the true colors emerge and I wind up with almost broken fingers, rape threats or such wonderful questions as "have you ever really been beat up before?" (uh, good bye!) At least it makes the dudes who suddenly stop saying anything or are just rude in general so much nicer. Even the dudes who don't bother mentioning they are married. One guy asked me to dance, we went to get some food afterward and then told me he had a baby and woman at home. Then he tried to kiss me while we were walking out. Give me a break. It has been scary and weird out there at times.

I think it is a freak desire to tame a savage beast and/or be ravaged and live to tell about it that makes some of these nasty types seem attractive. I think by adjusting our percepetion(s) we can avoid wasting our time. Tigers and lions can seem soft and cuddly...but there is a risk involved in dealing with them up close. (See Seigfried and Roy.) Maybe we should listen to Elvis' "Teddy Bear" and get a clue.

the hepatitis thing - what are the symptoms...could the employee have known about it?

I say the best way to avoid getting into a relationship with a jerk is to take things slowly. We romanticize the idea of "love at first sight," which ends up translating to relationship at first sight. Jerks can be charming at first, but given some time they will always show their true colors. I don't believe that anyone would choose to date a jerk if they knew before they became invested.

It is also important to note that some guys may act like jerks sometimes, even if they are not. The most fundamental, identifying feature of true jerks is their persistent resistance to ever changing their core jerk qualities.

A jerk doesn't say "Your ass is too big"

A jerk says "OMG, did you just get stung in the ass by a bunch of bees? And they totally missed your tits!"
