Now that the weather's getting colder and the days are getting shorter, it's a natural instinct to nestle down under a blanket with a good book, so here are Weetabix's top ten picks for your bookshelf, with a good mix of fiction and nonfiction to cleanse the literary palate.

  1. Jenny and the Jaws of Life by Jincy Willett. All short stories, all miraculous and wonderful.

  2. Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel by Jean Kilbourne and Mary Pipher. You'll never flip through a magazine the same way again.

  3. Rethinking Thin by Gina Kolata. This made major waves a few months ago and is a definite must-read.

  4. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. We also highly recommend his first novel, The Virgin Suicides.

  5. The Body Project: An Intimate History of American Girls by Joan Jacobs Brumberg. Wow, it's a major coup that most of us are able to eat or look into a mirror. Total eye opener.

  6. The Best American Poetry 2007 edited by Heather McHugh. Because if the last poem you read was by Robert Frost in the sixth grade, you're totally missing out on some incredible writing.

  7. I'm Not the New Me by Wendy McClure. We'd pimp this even if we weren't already in love with Ms. McClure. Great reading from an awesome writer.

  8. Wonder When You'll Miss Me by Amanda Davis. A gorgeously talented writer who was taken from us far too soon.

  9. Candyfreak: A Journey through the Chocolate Underbelly of America by Steve Almond. Yes, that's really his name, and he loves chocolate perhaps more than you do. Just a bit.

  10. The Bacon Cookbook by James Villas. What?

Jincy Willett, I love Jincy Willett!

I'm even more fond of her novel: "Winner of the National Book Award."

It features a cranky librarian with attitude. Very dry and funny.

Lots of other good picks on this list too. And some new (for me) authors to check out. Thanks!
