It's good to have trusty standbys. I must confess, in these meatless days of summer, I really love veggie burgers. This is related to the fact that I am nutso for sandwiches (the burger element adds an appropriate summery touch), and I feel like I'm sitting down to some serious eats when I gots me a burger. Who cares if it's made of wheat germ and peas? There are manifold opinions when it comes to the best veggie burger brands out there, but I am partial to Dr. Praeger's myself (you can actually see the vegetables in the patty). And anything I can make at work in the toaster oven feels as close to a home-cooked meal as you can get in an office kitchenette. Don't want a sprouted wheat bun? Use a toasted multi-grain English muffin. Top with pico de gallo and a little guacamole and serve with a side of baked potato chips or salad and you have a very healthy, hearty meal. --Sarah McColl
The comments want to know what you think are the best veggie burger brands out there and how you dress them up.
I'm quite fond of Garden Burgers, myself. Very mushroomy.
My favorite brand is the Blueberry Hill/Don Lee Farms Veggie Patties that I buy at Costco. Ideally avocado, cajun seasoning, and Laughing Cow (Light Original Swiss) are also involved.
Mmmm that does sound like a tasty combo.
My personal fave is the Yves Chick'n veggie burger. No mushrooms, woo hoo! I like to stick them on a grainy bun, with either some lettuce, really sharp cheddar and ketchup, or cut 'em up and toss them in Annie's Mac n Cheese. Mmmmm.
I love the Tomato & Basil Pizza Burgers from Morningstar Farms. I dress my burgers fairly simply: tomato, lettuce, ff cheese and maybe a little ff mayo on the whole wheat bun. Man, that sounds good. Now I'm hungry.
I love the Morningstar Grillers Prime original. I put it on a toasted 7-grain bun with a slice of no-fat cheddar, a slice of tomato, a schmear of avacado, and a dab of A1 sauce. Heavenly.
