I'd love to go all Patton on my winter-limp quads, but I have a hell of a time trying to get myself motivated to exercise. I don't find gyms as fun as dancing at a club with my friends or playing a round of golf, so I end up talking myself out of it, which is exactly the difference between myself and the boys. A brisk walk is nice, but in these northern climes, a quick stroll with the iPod cranking out the Timberlake quickly turns into a slip and slide. Not quite the way to bring sexy back. Until the weather gets warmer, I've been relying upon yoga DVDs, specifically Megan Garcia's Yoga Just My Size. Garcia, a plus-size model who has appeared in Glamour and Lane Bryant ads, is just as encouraging and instructional as any other yoga instructor, but for some reason when she asks me to downward dog I don't mentally tell her to do something else doggy style. I respond to her better than any other yoga instructor because Megan and I have something in common: We both have big boobs. It's easy to do the plow pose when you've got a lean swimmer's body, but a lot tougher when you're going to smother yourself under your own accoutrements. By the end of an hour, my heart rate is up, my limbs are loose and I am, quite frankly, a little beat. I like to think of it as a kinder, gentler form of boot camp. Maybe I'm ready to win a free 14-day pass to a Gold's
Gym. Attennnn-shun! 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Yoga breaks my will to live because it demands two things I lack as an aging woman--flexibility and balance. Both drift away over the years, yet both are crucial if you want to charge through your life.
I'll have to poll my friends and see what they have in the way of yoga DVD's. I find it's smart to try before you buy any fitness related stuff--saves so much wasted time and money.
So many instructors are just way, way too perky for my taste. Apparently not only am I losing my flexibility and balance, I'm also turning into a grumpy curmudgeon.
Good times.
